Juvenile Cases
Juvenile cases have become more and more predominant in the US over the past 5 years. A juvenile case is a case that the defendant is under 17 years of age. These types of cases are often seen by the family division of the circuit court. This means that a family court will hear the case and make a ruling.
Juvenile cases are classified in three different categories: delinquency cases, child protective proceedings, and traffic cases. Each of these types of categories has their own crimes with their own punishments.
Generally, traffic cases are when the minor has committed a misdemeanor traffic violation and must have a court hearing to take care of the punishment for the crime that was committed. These types of cases usually include violations such as traffic citations, DWI’s, and DUI’s. These are not the only offenses but just a few of the usual ones that tend to pop up in many family courts.
Child protective proceedings are court hearings in which a child is involved that has been abused or mistreated by their family and now needs to be placed in a foster care of some kind. The child will usually be placed in this type of foster care so that the court has time to decide on how they can help the family.
Delinquency cases usually are the most severe out of all the three types of cases. These cases involve minors under the age of 17 that have committed crimes that would be considered a criminal case if it were to be committed by an adult.
