Passing a School Bus
The United States has many laws that are meant to protect children. There are many laws, related only to school buses. Society wants to make sure that children who use school buses, children who are away from their parents and who have little supervision, face as less danger as possible.
One such law regarding school buses is that cars cannot pass a school bus. When a school bus has stopped, put out the stop sign, and is flashing red lights, that means that students are boarding or getting off the bus from the left of right side of the bus. As a result, cars should not pass the bus. Students may get off the bus and go left or right; cars who pass the bus may hit students who are getting on or off the bus.
Passing a school bus is a crime. People who do it will face criminal charges if they are caught because they are putting children at risk. If a driver passes a school bus and hits a child, however, the penalties will be more severe. Moreover, the worse the injury to the child hit by the passing car, the more severe penalties the driver of the passing car will face.
Passing a school bus and hitting a child is a serious crime. Society does not look favorably upon someone who harms a child, negligently or not.
