Juvenile Delinquency
In today’s world, the hardships of life, unhealthy family environments, or other such forces cause life for some children to be extremely difficult. When most of us probably think of our childhoods, we think of a happy carefree time when our parents took care of us and so did the rest of the world. However, for many young people today, this is not the case.
More and more kids are turning to crime, whether in gangs or individual, these children are not respecting the law and must pay for it. With many high profile cases in the news in recent years the definition for juvenile delinquency has undergone much change, as well as the public view of children criminal.
Juvenile delinquency is defined as a crime committed by a young person, usually under the age 14-18 years old. Now although a minor under the age of 18 may commit a crime, the case will not necessarily be tried as a juvenile case. Often times older children who are found to be in sound mind and intelligent will be tried as adults. In this case, the crime committed it usually extremely serious and the court believes that only a person of sane and mature mind would have willingly committed it.
To prevent delinquency the government has tried to implement more educational and after-school programs to keep kids off the streets and out of harms way.
