Crime Statistics: Jan. 2007 to June 2007
Fighting crime is important in every society. To fight crime, the United States of America has taken a number of measures. It has increased law enforcement’s resources, established community groups, and altered its criminal justice system. Clearly, fighting crime is important.
To measure crime rates across the United States, various groups and agencies compile statistics, and the FBI has done this on a national scale. The FBI has found that the first half of the year 2007 saw significant decreases in crime in comparison to the first of half of 2006.
For one thing, the first half of 2007 saw a 1.8% reduction in violent crime and 2.6% reduction in property crime. Moreover, each of the four regions saw a decline in violent crime, and three out of the four saw a decline in property crime. In terms of violent crime:
- The West saw a decrease of 1.6%
- The Midwest saw a decrease of 2.6%
- The South saw a decrease of 0.1%
- The Northeast saw a decrease of 5.0%
In terms of property crime:
- The West saw a decrease of 4.1%
- The Midwest saw a decrease of 5.0%
- The South saw an increase of 0.4%
- The Northeast saw a decrease of 4.3%
Additionally, the United States as a whole saw an impressive decrease in arson, not considered a violent crime or a property crime, of 9.7%.
